When it comes to violin lessons for kids, parents new to music lessons want to know what they should expect. Oftentimes, they have no idea. That’s ok! We’ll tell you three things to expect for yourself as the parent of a child who wants to take beginning violin lessons.
1. You Don’t Have to Buy a Violin
Buying a violin is a bigger financial investment than renting. Yes, you can find a music shop that rents violins. Usually there’s a two or three month commitment but it’s a whole lot cheaper than buying a violin if you’re not sure how committed your child is going to be to their instrument and lessons.
2. It’s Going to Sound Awful.
Beginning violin lessons for kids are no joke when it comes to the squawks and screeching you will have to endure. Even for the adults who start violin lessons, there’s a lot of nasty sounds at the beginning! But introduce violin lessons to kids? It’s worse. And it’s loud.
We’re just letting you know, be mentally ready for it! But then, we also have to say, it’s so rewarding in the end –if your child sticks with it, that is. You will truly see and hear the obvious transformation.
3. There Will Be Days Your Student Won’t Want to Practice.
That’s every parent’s tension with their kid when it comes to taking violin lessons: the practice.
Besides starting a good, solid routine from the beginning, we strongly encourage parents to let their child know now and then how much they enjoy listening to them practice and also, to let them know when you hear that actual progress.
Sometimes, especially when things are part of a routine, we forget to check-in and give some nurturing encouragement. Kids thrive on it and it will help fuel them to continue on through the tough times with their violin lessons.
